Paul Reed Smith(PRS) Stripped 58 McCarty Tobacco Sunburst 2011
Paul Reed Smith's "Stripped" model is a classical-type guitar featuring a single-cut shape with a 22F fingerboard that debuted in 2012 as a limited production run. It excels in playability such as high-position performance, and is characterized by a vintage-style sound that can be considered the foundation of the current "McCarty 594".
The model that arrived this time is a 2011 "Stripped 58". (While the serial number is from 2011, it appears to have been completed in January 2012.) The neck shape is Wide Fat (pattern), and the color is McCarty Tobacco Sunburst.
It features rich acoustic resonance due to its unique body thickness, a mahogany body with beautiful curved figured maple top of classic shape, mahogany neck, and East Indian Rosewood fingerboard with 22F. It incorporates 2011 bird inlays, locking pegs, and hardware and appearance that are thoroughly characteristic of PRS.
The "Two Piece Bridge" unique to this model combines a distinctive tailpiece with a TOM-type bridge. It was developed to transmit string vibration to the body as much as possible, and was a bridge previously handled only in Private Stock, but remarkably comes standard on this model.
It features covered "57/08" pickups, allowing more accurate expression of picking nuance, and delivers a pleasant vintage sound from clean to crunch. The classical control layout of 2 volumes/2 tones with a 3-way toggle selector is actually a very rare configuration for PRS, and the pickup selector position is designed as if responding to Les Paul users' requests.
This Stripped has a simple, viscous, sweet tone with luster and a unique feel when playing. The comfortable drive and moderately warm clean tone are excellent. Of course, compared to Gibson, this is lighter, but playability on stage is incomparably superior to the Les Paul. This is particularly noticeable in high positions. The appearance, which seems to work with any genre from jazz to hard rock, is also convenient.
Many people are dissatisfied with the subtle position of the selector on PRS guitars, but this model hits exactly what Gibson users are looking for. The neck provides the sense of security of a '58 Les Paul. Even compared to the latest McCarty 594, it's hard to choose between them—this is genuinely a great guitar.
