Gibson Les Paul Studio Custom Shop Edition MT 1993

A very rare limited and special edition model "Gibson Les Paul Studio (Custom Shop Edition) / Metallic Teal" manufactured by Gibson in the early 1990s has arrived in stock.

It features a "Metallic Teal" finish—an emerald green, bluish-green metallic finish—and weighs 4.41kg.

This is a special edition Custom Shop version of the "Les Paul Studio," a model that has been popular with a wide range of players as a reasonably-priced offering. During the era just before the independent Custom Shop became established, individual instruments made with "limited colors," "shop-exclusive custom specifications," and "limited hardware" at the Nashville factory and other facilities were marked with a special "Custom Shop Edition" stamp on the back of the neck.

The Studio keeps costs down by adopting a simple design without decorative elements like binding, while still featuring authentic Les Paul sound and luxurious gold hardware. Early 1990s Les Paul Studios, like the Les Paul Custom of that period, used ebony fretboards made of jet-black, hard premium wood during this era, and this example is the same. It delivers a sharp sound with quick attack characteristic of the Les Paul Custom.

The pickups are a combination of the standard humbuckers "490R / 490T," which are believed to be original—another key point. While having a sound character close to the "57 Classic," it achieves a more modern humbucker sound by slightly emphasizing the mid-high frequencies. The pot is also from 1993.

Despite being a cost-performance model with minimal decoration, both the pickups and hardware use standard components, and personally, this Studio sounds and plays better than the recent regular lineup Les Paul Standard.

We have refinished the frets at our shop, so the playing condition is excellent. Since arrival, the screws for the pickup escutcheon have been missing, and it is currently held in place by only a few screws. Additionally, because screws in some areas are stuck and cannot be removed, the pickups themselves cannot be taken off. (Height adjustment is possible.) Please understand this. The original pickguard is also included, but its screw holes have also become rusted.

The fretboard inlays are quite luxurious. They look just like a "Tak Burst." The "GEM" series, which offered similar colors, has P90 pickups, and the luxury feel is quite different from this one.
