Fender Jaguar 1965 Sunburst #L97145
Fender Jaguar 1965 Sunburst #L97145
The "Fender Jaguar," a short-scale model that debuted in 1962, became popular among guitar heroes in the underground music scene as a cutting-edge electric guitar equipped with diverse features, and made significant contributions to the development of surf music, punk music, and alternative music.
This time, we have received a vintage Fender Jaguar in Sunburst color from 1965! The weight is approximately 3.66kg.
The serial number is "L97145," the neck date is "1AUG65B," a B neck manufactured in August 1965. It features a Sunburst-colored alder body with original pickguard, a round-laminated rosewood fingerboard without binding with Perloyd position markers. It is also equipped as standard with a mute mechanism with sponge called the "Fender Mute" located between the bridge and rear pickup.
Nearly all parts including pickups, pots, capacitors, and hardware were original, but upon arrival, the parts, wiring, and other components were in unusable condition, so we performed a complete overhaul.
We have replaced the frets and nut, replaced the bridge, saddle, and jack with new parts (bridge is Fender original "005-4460-049"), replaced the volume and tone pots, replaced the ON/OFF switch for the front and rear pickups, replaced the low-cut switch, and replaced the preset tone ON/OFF switch. The pot for the preset tone was acceptable with cleaning, so it was not replaced. Since the pickups themselves remain original, we have repaired it in a way that players will find most satisfying.
Rather than a collector's item, we prioritize bringing vintage guitars into practical playing condition at our shop, enabling immediate use for everyday performance, recording, and stage play.
After repair, this Jaguar feels quite easy to use in both sound and playability. While it retains that vintage quality in its tone, every pickup position and preset tone has its own useful applications—it's excellent. The fact that you don't experience the typical Jaguar awkwardness may be largely due to the new frets and the neck's smooth finish from arrival, which feels like a recent custom shop relic piece, making it very easy to play. I felt that the parts changes also worked positively overall.
Previously, I personally thought of the Jaguar as a guitar where players had to persevere through its awkwardness, but with this particular instrument, I don't feel that frustration at all. Playing it creates a desire to own it, and my perspective on the Jaguar has changed significantly. Good things really are good. I'd definitely like you to try it at the shop, and you can experience the authentic Jaguar sound supported by artists in the alternative rock and grunge scenes. Please take this opportunity.
