fender-jazzmaster-sunburst-1965-w-binding-dot-inlay
Fender Jazzmaster Sunburst 1965 w/ Binding & Dot Inlay

Fender Jazzmaster Sunburst 1965 w/ Binding & Dot Inlay

A classic real vintage Fender Jazzmaster from 1965 has arrived in stock. The serial number on the neckplate is "121220", the neck date is "4OCT65B", and the weight is approximately 3.72kg.

The classic styling combines a 3-color sunburst finish with a tortoiseshell pickguard, creating a look that truly evokes the presence of vintage Fender. This is a 1965/late-period specification with neck binding and dot marker neck, features that were adopted only on Fender's premium models. Since the design was changed to block position markers in mid-1966, this is a rare spec that was only used for approximately six months. The neck date confirms it was manufactured in October 1965, which is consistent with the specifications.

The body is made of alder, achieving a well-balanced tone with punch and rich mid-bass frequencies. It features a maple neck combined with a 21-fret rosewood fingerboard. The 7.25-inch radius, characteristic of the era, is also a major attraction.

Upon inspection of the reverse side of the installed pickups, they appear to be original. However, as there was no sound output when the instrument arrived, we re-wired the electrical system, and it now operates properly. The pots had already been replaced when it arrived (from 1980 and 1976 manufacture), and we have replaced them with newer ones. The frets had worn to the point of being unplayable when the instrument arrived, so we performed a refret (same size as original) and replaced the nut. We also replaced the preset switch, preset volume & tone controls, toggle switch, output jack, and glued a body crack inside the preset control cavity. Please note that it may be difficult to determine the replacement history of screws and some other parts. The tuning pegs are likely original.

While preserving the original sound as much as possible, we have performed repairs to bring this instrument into practical condition for players who prioritize playability, making it ready for immediate use.

The 1960s Jazzmaster from the golden age is favored by many artists and is one of those dream instruments for guitarists. While this particular instrument is not suited for collectors, its sound is exceptional. With parts replacements and refret work completed, it is in the finest playing condition and can be used immediately in various settings.

The finish and wear from the passage of time since then represent a reality that relic finishes and reissues can never replicate. The 1960s Jazzmaster, whose value is expected to continue rising in the future, is an exceptional instrument that we would love to see in the hands of players who will use it extensively.

【Accessories】Fender hard case (uncertain whether original, but it bears a plate from H&H Music Co., so it is likely vintage)

【Appearance & Condition】Well-used appearance typical of vintage instruments.

【Truss Rod】Adequate clearance

【Frets】No wear (refretted)

【Neck】Straight

【Nut Width】Approximately 41mm

・If any buzzing, dead spots, or other issues that significantly impair playability are found, they will be noted here.
