Wizard, A True Star』（1973年）に見られるように、その後もダブルアルバム『Todd』（1974年）と『Initiation』（1975年）をリリース。この頃から、バックバンドのユートピアと共に、プログレッシブで実験的なライブ音源やスタジオ音源のリリースも開始した。ラングレンはソロ活動も続け、片面オリジナル、もう片面1966年のカバー曲を収録した『Faithful』（1976年）、『Hermit of Mink Hollow』（1978年）、『Healing』（1981年）、『The Ever Popular Tortured Artist Effect』（1983年）そしてその名もずばり『A Cappella』（1985年）などが代表作である。ユートピアは1986年に解散。トッド・ラングレン\/ユートピア名義で一連のライブアルバムとスタジオアルバムをリリースした後、解散した。これらのアルバムには、ラングレンの尽きることのない作詞作曲、ボーカル、そしてパフォーマンスの貢献が随所に見られた。休止期間を経て、1989年にライブスタジオアルバム『Nearly
