He described choosing the name for two reasons: \"The name Stalin is very hated by most people in Japan, so it is very good for our image,\" and, as a socialist, he felt Stalin represented \"The downside to every good idea\". The first incarnation of the band lasted until 1985. Endo formed other related groups including Video Stalin (1987-88), and Stalin  (1988-1992).
